Looks like IL is the place to get the license. No questions asked and you will get 5 years. I just had my license renewed for 5 years in Aug 2008 by mail even though my H1 expires in Oct 2009.
Hi Friends, I went to DMV PA (Bridgevile) to renew my drivers license recently. They are not accepting original EAD/ AP, copy of 485 receipt plus employer letter. They are asking for original 485 receipt. Unfortunately my ex-employer did not give the original receipt.
Did any body renew the PA DL without original 485 receipt?

Hi Lonedesi and team,
I wish, I could move forward on this, unfortunately my employer a financial firm , will not sign or support the DHS Form 7001 due to legality, instead I can just send the letter by E-mail or mail to Ombudsman's office ?
Does it make sense ? Please advise.

After some point we need to ask USCIS to update the processing times to reflect this long delay, or take legal action or whatever to expedite this...

My impression was that USCIS calculated the possible number of cases that would be ready to be assigned a visa (means all the name check and other formalities finished) , before a month and the first PD that will not get a VISA will be the cutoff date for the bulletin for that month.
If the USCSI didnt have enough applications to be assigned the VISA , then why are they so conservative in making the cutoff dates move ahead. What is the harm in pro-actively moving the cutiff dates, to amek sure no visa gets wasted. I think focussing on avoiding visa wastage itself will reduce this retrogression mess to a big extent

I go to India atleast once every year and I agree that the urban infrastructure has changed a lot. But, such a change has created overcrowding in major cities which has lead to heavy pollution, rocketing inflation, high cost of living, and what not. You can get anything you want - best education, best food, best best best .... if you can afford.
During one of the trips couple of years back I did a casual interview at a huge software giant in Chennai just to guage how well I will fit. This was for a programming job in C++. Interview was rookie, intrerviewer was surprised why I want to come back because people actually seek such companies as route to US or UK and also made me feel that I may not be satisfied with the job if he has to offer.
So here is the thing. If you want to go back and lead a good life - I think it is a good idea provided you have very good education and experience and you get into the league of executives or you want to set up some booming business.
If you want to go back and work at a managerial level - you may not find things that interesting because of the affordibnility factor.
It is totally upto you to decide. IV will become ready for elections when we have real candidates with real faces. I request all real candidates to publish their photos and accomplishments, their ideas for the organization; so that we can choose the best person for the job.
Any volunteers? Why don't I see a single volunteer! Seriously, can we have an election without candidates?!
I feel that initiator of this thread is not trying a coup d'�tat. He is merely pointing to the fact that every organization runs by elected officials. Having a life term president and core group is only heard in autocratic systems but not in a democratic one. What are we as an organization?
Why are we afraid of discussing new ideas? Why shouldn't we open up IV organization for elections? There is nothing wrong in declaring the rules and then playing by those rules.
So I completely support the guy who came up with this suggestion.

I am july 2nd filer!!!!!
I spoke to NSC today and they told me that he told me that you need to wait 45 days. OR your check is cashed, there is no way they can check tes system and find out the status for you.
I am glad it will be done this week end!!!!

He clearly and very clearly told me that they have a deadline to send all receipts for June end and July 2nd filers by friday (tomorrow) or worst case monday.
He mentioned that they are working hard to meet this deadline.
Hope this clears the anxiety.

1. Threads concerned with the Action Items and Legislative matters should be separated from the usual GC related questionnaire
If you look at the website you find a bunch of new threads related to 485 filing. Most of them bear answers in previous threads. People dont want to search..but that okay..they can form new threads if they are very desperate for the answers.
But at the same time due to the flood of these messages we are missing important notices and action items like this one.If we separate them somehow it will be helpful.
2. Lets have an organized tracking of 485s. Lets separate them by Visa category , country, PD or RD.
ex: Eb3 country: India
PD 2001: RD:...? LUD: ...?
PD:2004:
EB3 : China...
...
..
Lets have an option of adding friends approx dates who are not immigration voice members. This way we can have rough estimate about what happening. Lets not make threads for each category.
This way may be we have a very good track of the visas than USCIS...heheheh:D
I guess most of the 1v members are s/w engineers...i am not...orelse i would have volunteered to do this...
Anybody here ...who can spare some of their valuable time???

I am in a bind now, appreciate any advice,
I am planning on using my EAD to switch to another job in a couple of months. Meanwhile I have booked tickets for May 26th to send my son to India for the summer. He has H4 stamped in his passport valid till 2010.
My question is
**Can my son come back on H4 even though I use my EAD to change jobs ?
**Does he need to have advance parole ? Even if I apply for AP tomorrow, chances are very slim that he will get it before he leaves on May 26th.

If you switch Jobs, and you don't have your H1B transfered to the new employer this means your H1B is not valid. No your son can not entry the country on H4 he must use AP. But if you continue to work full time on H1B and work part time on EAD with another employer then he can come on H4.

Other than the visa recapture, I guess at this point there isn't a whole lot we can do. I guess when we applied for GC we basically pawned our life to USCIS.
It is kind of sad that when they had visa available they weren't able to approve the cases before April '03. Pathetic!!
Enough of venting.... hopefully things might work out for the better this year!

That is the victory due to our admin fixes campaign. Your thousands of letters are working here.
We had received good feedback in our meetings with the administration.
The whole process of making final announcements is just too slow!!
We recently had another meeting to discuss one more admin fix item that has not been addressed yet and was part of our letters. Let us hope some decision comes out soon enough.
Pappu, then why no to plan for another letter campaign, if that is what making things work a little bit.

Seriously, does anyone have the transcript and slides/charts used? The good professor (Wadhwa) might be right, or wrong, or both. But I want to take a good look at the charts and the raw data. As they say, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Of course, it is all an academic exercise.. Prof. Wadhwa (or me) can no more affect the global movement of knowledge and capital than King Canute could hold back the tide. But, it is far better an exercise than getting in the mud pit and hurling at each other :rolleyes:

Anybody can go to a court and seek justice if they feel they have been harmed or suffered losses even by a govt body.
Ample evidence is available in court records for cases against USCIS by GC applicants for delays and errors. This not an opinion but a fact.
In this country you just don't get screwed or get a cold shoulder for seeking justice within the written laws.
Unfortunately numbskulls like villamonte and DED don't have a mental capacity to understand these concepts

Do you know what was the Receipt date mentioned in the Transfer Notice. I am just trying to guess when they may come to my case. My receipt date for 485 was from Vermont and is 7/31/07. But then it was transferred back to Texas and this has a Receipt date of 10/1/07. I am just trying to find out which Receipt date will be considered to pre-adjudicate my application. Thanks.
